ACSO LIVESTOCK (CROSSE-BREED COWS) PROJECT PROGRAM

We all need support through the most important period of our children: the early years

Livestock development is a flagship program under Agape Child Support Organization. The project has an aim of not only increasing the productivity but also empowering the community economically.

Livestock Development Project typically involves activities aimed at improving the production and management of livestock, with the goal of increasing productivity, profitability, and sustainability of livestock production. The project may involve a range of activities, including:

  1. Improved animal health: This involves providing animal health services such as vaccinations, deworming, and treatment of diseases to prevent and control livestock diseases.
  2. Breeding and genetics: This involves improving the quality of livestock breeds by selecting animals with desirable traits such as high milk production, fast growth rate, and disease resistance.
  3. Feed and nutrition: This involves improving feed quality and quantity for livestock to ensure adequate nutrition, which can improve animal health and productivity.
  4. Marketing and value addition: This involves developing and promoting value-added livestock products such as dairy products, meat products, and leather goods.
  5. Infrastructure development: This involves improving the physical infrastructure required for livestock production, including water supply, housing, and fencing.
  6. Capacity building: This involves training livestock farmers on best practices in livestock production and management, as well as marketing and business management.

ACSO Livestock Development Project can contribute significantly to poverty reduction and rural development, especially in developing countries where livestock production is an important source of income and food security.

Economic Empowering

Yes, economic empowerment is an important aspect of ACSO Livestock Development Projects. By improving the productivity and profitability of livestock production, farmers (beneficiaries) can increase their incomes and improve their livelihoods. This can be achieved through a range of activities, including:

  1. Access to credit and financial services: This involves providing farmers with access to credit, savings, and insurance services to help them invest in their livestock businesses and manage risk.
  2. Market linkages: This involves linking farmers to markets where they can sell their livestock and livestock products at fair prices i.e. milk
  3. Business development services: This involves providing farmers with training and support in business management, marketing, and other skills needed to run successful livestock businesses.
  4. Value chain development: This involves supporting the development of livestock value chains, including processing and marketing, to create more opportunities for farmers to add value to their products and increase their profits.

Overall, by focusing on economic empowerment as well as technical aspects of livestock production, ACSO Livestock Development Projects can help farmers build more resilient and sustainable livelihoods.

Officially, the Livestock project began in 2022 and so far we have given out 39 Cross-breed cows to beneficiaries. Selection of beneficiaries was crucial factor as this is the determinant of successful implementation of the program. This will ensure optimum preparedness of beneficiaries in terms of Cross-breed cows, management, housing, feeding, feeds conservation and the whole livestock value chain for economic gains to the beneficiaries and sustainability of the ACSO project.
